How to Look Better

Hey. First, let’s get the fact out of the way that I’m a character. I have no body. I have no friends. All I have is a story which sprang from the brain of HG Lewis.

In the beginning, I’m Goth. But not a very good Goth. I wore black and kept my skin white, but I can’t really say that I embraced at it.

Then, after a near death accident, I was presented with a choice. Live or die. I know the choice sounds easy but not so much. After picking life, I hated looking dead even alive so I decided to add some color to my life. Brighter outfits gained me zero popularity. Not that I craved popularity, but it didn’t even gain me notice.

Figuring attractive meant popular, I tried makeup. Didn’t work. I even tried bigger boobs. That’s right. I can do that. Even those didn’t work. Everything I thought should make me popular didn’t. I am eventually noticed and even popular but had no idea why. It confused me.

I have more mentors than anyone should, so I asked them about it. When they said I already knew, it kind of made me mad. I mean, if I understood why people suddenly liked me, I wouldn’t have asked. They knew me well, so they explained it anyway.

People’s impression of you, mirrors your impression of yourself. Paint me red-faced. I did know.

Let’s go to an example. Next time you watch a movie, notice how the actors go from frumpy to attractive. All the hours they spend in the makeup chair is impressive, but it would be nothing without acting. When they act, they adopt the attitude of their character. Watch Jennifer Lawrence go from gorgeous to plain. Well, as plain as Jennifer Lawrence can. Notice her posture and the confidence she exudes. That’s the key.

Another example is the pretty people. I know you probably avoid them as much as possible, but next time you have a chance, ignore your impulse and watch the attractive. You know them. They’re the people you want to slap because of how much they love themselves. Notice how straight they stand. Their heads are up, and their backs are straight. Confidence and competence rolls off them. Disgusting.

On the other hand, notice the less than attractive individuals. Probably your friends. These people look like they’re carrying the weight of the world on their shoulders. Their heads are down, and their backs are bent. They look beaten down and defeated by life. Consider how they would look if they stood straight. If they exuded confidence.

Not only does your body language make you more attractive, it changes the way people accept you. If you believe you are competent, so will the people you interact with. Watch how many completely-made-up statements are accepted as truth because they are said with confidence.

Standing straight is the first key. Next is exuding. We’ll talk about that later.
